I started a keen interest for photography in my very early years. My dad wasn't exactly supportive and as a rule of thumb he wouldn't allow a picture to be taken if not at least one family member was part of it. So naturally I wasn't getting happy with my artistic vision at that time. At the age of 12 I started taking photography and darkroom classes at school. I was immediately addicted. Developing the film, enlarging the pictures, it was a constant love. We only had the means for black and white photography but that didn't matter - whenever my eye touched the viewfinder it made me happy and I wanted to explore new things. Even today I still have pictures from these early years. Later during my apprenticeship I started working at a model agency. I was helping to set up shootings and assisted the photographer on his assignments. On quieter days I was taking care of the computers and scanning the film. I was always very interested in technology and computers have been a thing that I seemed to have a talent for. After the apprenticeship I still worked at the model agency but reached out to assist and work for several photographers to gain a broader knowledge about the different fields of photography and earn some money. I assisted on architecture, still-life, car, boat, animal and finally fashion and lifestyle shootings. I accepted any work to earn enough money to make a living but I clearly loved the people shootings best. It amazed me how different each photographer worked with the models and how diverse the results looked. One photographer allowed me to shoot the paid models after he felt he had the shot he needed. It was amazing. Some of these models earned more in one day than I earned in an entire month. Needless to say it was a tough time for me financially. So I was very greatful to say the least. In return he asked me to scan and retouch for him which I gladly did. Life has it's ways and sometimes it pays out if you work for free. One day some of the pictures I shot after the real shooting catched the attention of the art director. He seemed to like one of my shots best although the photographer tried to convince him to use one of his photographs. The art director insisted on that one shot and asked me if I was interested to shoot some paid assignments for his clients. I don't need to tell you the answer.
I started photography 18 years ago and still love it. Mostly I shoot 6x7 film, MFDB's and DSLR's. I love to use my creativity to capture beauty and generate interest.
Another love of mine is retouching. I love Photoshop. I love color. Sometimes I go too far :-) I'm retouching my own photography but also offer my retouching services to other photographers and clients. I retouched pictures of Oscar and Grammy winning celebrities which have been printed internationally or even used as cd and book covers.
I'm available worldwide for paid photography and retouching work. Please inquire at boris @ borispale.com |
